MTA *Metro-North Railroad* uses Grand Central for its east-of-the-Hudson
trains (others end in Hoboken). MTA *Long Island Rail Road* uses, in
addition to other terminals, Penn Station (and soon Grand Central, once
the East Side Access tunnel is complete). Amtrak shares tracks with
both, as well as NJ Transit, on its way to Penn Station.
It's possible that Paul was thinking of PATH straddling the Northeast
Corridor in Kearny; there may still be a yard connection between the two.
