I encourage mapping it like many history sites are mapped: name the
registry that made the designation,
and the registration number (or 'primary key' if you prefer).  Tools like
osmsync <http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Osmsync> are available for
checking that
all designated sites are mapped, and that all mapped sights are designated.
