Do not think multi-values in names are practical in any way.

You are always better of in adding different spellings/abbreviations as
extra keys.

For the explicit tagging of street signs you can always tag them as node
and perhaps include it in the street/associatedStreet relation.

Still in favor of no abbreviations in names.
