I strongly dispute this. In the US, where practical bicycles are the
exception, not the rule, surface information is exceptionally important.
The overwhelming vast majority of bicycles are touring, MTB or BMX, with
city/cargo/cruiser bicycles being extremely extremely exceptional (and
often subject to unbearably expensive customs tax thanks to American laws
not differentiating bicycles on design purpose like it does motor vehicle
purpose, so a very heavy city bicycle from Holland with US-required
equipment permanently and inseperately installed ends up paying the same
import duty as a Chinese built 3-pound carbon fiber velodrome bicycle with
no brakes, where as a station wagon pays nearly no import tax and a
Maseratti pays about the same percentage as a bicycle).
