[Tagging] waterway=wadi problem

Looking around in Wikipedia:
Wash = Arroyo  =  Barranca = Wadi = Rambla = normally dry river bed, often
subject to flash floods in case of upstream rain.

If we have the the established term wadi for this, why create additional
nearly synonymous tags?
