Hi Frank,
as I explain in the proposal page, it helps avoid that a good
willing mapper puts it back on as a real camera. Besides, if
something exists at a fixed location, it should have a place in OSM.
Even less conspicuous street cabinets have their own tag. I wouldn't
use the "man_made=street_cabinet" tag because they look totally
different, and there's nothing fake about a street cabinet.
