I also think that it's just a wiki limitation and area=yes or 
landuse=railway tag should not be needed. Does the adding area and 
relation as possible choices needs some formal steps or it's just an 
edit one could do any time, if nobody here would disagree?

There's also another tagging problem I see: with building=train_station 
we're not sure if this building is still used as a station building, 
used in a different way - like cafe - or just abandoned? For churches we 
have "amenity=place_of_worship", what tag should we use to know a 
station building is active in this role?

BTW: the "node-only problem" is more universal, I've seen some other 
wiki entries neglecting possibility that we could know object 
dimensions. Sooner or later I would refresh them too.
