I doubt it is simpler, you would have to select all nodes that are part of
it and would have to check that you didn't include something that is not
part of it. Then you'd have to download and select the relation everytime a
new tree is to be added. Then you'd still not have the area around the tree
included which might be a question of interpretation but could be seen that
it is also part of the commemorative area. The arboreum is arguably also
consisting of the space between the nodes. From a dataconsumer point of
view it is also simpler to evaluate a polygon (e.g. to see how big it is)
then a list of nodes. And it would provide a border, which might be
desirable, or not. But as I wrote above, I agree it depends on the
situation (how many trees / all trees being part of the arboreum, or an
area with some scattered commemorative trees being distant from each other
and seen more as a group of point features or as an area).
