yes, originally they were designed to run all the time, their output was
needed for some sewers in order to remain functional. Last year many of
them were shut down because of drought. Some of them have a push button,
but most are still just running all the time. There are hundreds of them in
the city, but compared to almost 3 millions of inhabitants, to a lot of
watering of green areas, etc., I believe their impact on the water
consumption is not so big.
