Where the stair width is narrow it is easy to pick the centre for a simple way and tag it for the width.

However where the stair width is large, say 100s of meters, picking the centre becomes harder.
Most renders pay no attention to the width so the rendering is poor.
Routers too will think that the distance is greater than reality.

By placing laterals at each side these issues might be minimised.
