[Tagging] Adding food=yes / food=no on amenity=pub - is it useful for all pubs?

IMHO add it to presets, so it's easy to add, but do not drive/nag
mappers to set/use the tag.

I don't see real problems. If it disturbs or is unclear (what counts as
"real food"?) or the like, mappers just don't add it to the node. Same
for the mantioned special case in UK where it's common to have 2 nodes
for the same location, one for the pub/drinks and one for the
restaurant/food - the pub having food=yes is neither required (search
will find the restaurant node) nor hurting (conflicting, considerably
increasing maintainenance effort,...) but both is fine.

Just use opening_hours:kitchen - well-defined and semantically matching.

as addition to "food=yes", could be added in preset as optional
child-setting for food.
