[Tagging] sport without pitch but club : ok or tagging mistake ?

I have done this when mapping shops selling equipment for a particular
sport eg golf, surfing, by tagging it as shop=sports + sport=*** eg

This is what the wiki says:

"Tags to use in combination
- sport <https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:sport>=* if shop focuses

If this is wrong, what's the better option?
