My impression is that a lot of the discussion and the negative comments in the vote focused on the specific application examples in urban land use. This is a field where there is traditionally already a strong lack of consensus on the status quo in tagging in the first place (i.e. there are strongly diverging views on how things are to be mapped and tagged at the moment).
In hindsight i think a better strategy would have been to bring up the proposal in a less contested domain (specifically the application on natural areas with mixed or multi-layered characteristics). For cases like:
