We talked about this already. The mail functionality of Discourse is
more akin to mail notifications, so it can never replace a mailing
list.
Some defining properties of a mailing list: subscribe by email, create
a new topic by email, reply be email, follow all or select threads by
email, (search by email?!), but should definitely not involve having
to do anything in a web browser.
