[Tagging] Is landuse=recreation_ground different than leisure=park and leisure=sports_centre?

The tag landuse=recreation_ground seems to only be commonly used in
Commonwealth countries and Britain. I am not sure how it is supposed to be
compared to leisure=park or leisure=sports_centre

Here in Portland, Oregon it has been used to map a fenced area of tennis
courts inside of a park, but that does not seem to be a common use, but
rather what one local mapper found convenient.

In Britain most of the places of landuse=recreation_ground appear to be
what we would call a leisure=park in the USA: areas with grass, sports
pitches, playgrounds, bathrooms, and so on.

Some seem to be sports centres, or parts of school yards which contain
pitches. It's even been used instead of landuse=winter_sports for ski
areas, eg: https://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/8191791
