Hello,

In some places, especially out of cities, an address may exist in a 
location where there is neither a building neither a post box. An 
address is not necessarily linked to an object in the real world. I 
think that in a general case, it could be just a node (a location) where 
you can define a destination for a router. Above all, this address must 
be unique on the map.
