What about fenced=yes then? It is currently deprecated [1]. Why? 
Shouldn't it then also be de-deprecated, so that it can be used if a 
pitch is surrounded by a fence? Note that barrier=fence as a linear 
feature should not be used together with leisure=pitch (or any other 
area feature) according to the One feature, one OSM element rule [2].
