[Tagging] Is entrance=main reserved for public buildings?

I've been using entrance=main on private residential buildings and believe
this is fine and the best way to mark the main entrance of the building. I
don't understand the point or value of entrance=home or entrance=staircase,
because they are trying to record different kinds of data (the building
type and what is behind the door respectively) and you lose the ability to
then tag a main entrance leading to a staircase if you just use
entrance=staircase. Better to use entrance=main + some other tag to say
there are stairs behind the door and you can't enter a foyer at this level.
