This is sound logic and suggests that editor support has probably coalesced
on the new tagging. Looking at the crossing=zebra chronology on taginfo,
it seems that there have been some concerted mini-efforts to re-tag them en
masse. Yet, there is still a slow increase in crossing=zebra that is still
occurring between large drops, rather than a gradual phase-out like we
might expect. I think it would be worthwhile to examine where that slow
increase is coming from in order to understand what the current state of
editor support is. I would like to see this proposal spell out what the
current status is of both tags in all major editors so we fully understand
the state of play and who is using the old tags and why.
