Hello Ivan,
I also don't think it is a good idea to delete them outright. Looking at the diverse ways they have been used each one of them may require a different solution. I just looked at a few of them and I can identify that some of them represent amenities, addresses, town/city/village name etc. So I think the best approach is to go through the points one by one and make the required changes, some have to be deleted nevertheless but it's better to scrutinise them first.
Regards,

 Hi everyone,
Enock from the "OSM Africa" Telegram group suggested me to post it also here, in the mailing list:
I wanted to share with the local community a problem with tagging I found in Cameroon.
I found more than 2000 nodes with incorrect place=* values, here the overpass query: https://overpass-turbo.eu/s/1euW
It's 138 different invalid values.

I don't feel comfortable deleting them because maybe there's some useful information, but 1. I don't have local knowledge 2. some values look like french words ("Rue gare marchandisse";"PETIT MARCHE";"CHAMP DE PRIERE") so maybe they can be "transformed" in other tags?
I contacted the user at first but then I noticed he never replied to any changeset comment so far and also I discovered the invalid tags in Cameroon were many more than the ones I found initially.
