If we have the several categories in OSM, then it makes sense to make each
one meaningful.

Auslink roads (National Highways) are different to A roads, so we should
use trunk/primary to distinguish these.

As you know, this isn't official in NSW.  Just about all of the
alphanumeric names in place have been overplated.  I'm not suggesting that
we use the alphanumeric names in OSM until the switch happens, but just use
the work the RTA has done to make trunk/primary/secondary decisions.

Look at sites like

http://www.ozroads.com.au/NSW/Special/MAB/evidence.htm

where they have identified many of what will be the alphanumeric names in
rural areas.

For example SR81 will become B81, and the Gt Western Highway will become
the A32.  So, SR81 becomes secondary, and with ref SR81.

I also think it puts OSM in a more cutting edge position then our
competitors, where we can refer to photographs and street signs, etc, which
appeals to me.
