There is a review of GPS units on the wiki.

I use my GPS similarly, on car, foot, bus, train and bike. I use a Garmin
GPSmap 60CSx.

It generates GPX points at 1sec/10m intervals, and stores years of them.
You can upload the generated GPX files directly from the unit to OSM or
into JOSM with no intermediate software.

Its accuracy and rapid lock are second to none. Its battery life is good
too. It is rugged and waterproof, and has attachments (extra) for in car
and bike handlebar use.

And, best of all, you can load a complete set of OSM maps onto it
(non-routable at the moment - though).

The only thing it doesn't do is store NMEA accuracy information. To do
this I guess you would need a PDA type unit, which is I'm not game to take
on the bike for the possibility of smashing it.

I also have a etrex, and a HP PDA with builtin SIRF III GPS (the same
chipset as the GPSmap). They do the job, but aren't as good IMO.

YMMV, and I'm sure there are as many opinions as there are devices to
choose from.

Ian.
