[talk-au] Why aren't my maps rendered? (yes I have read the FAQ!)

Steve, I have had a quick look at that area and yes, it seems like the
Queanbeyan data are all ways, and are tagged with a valid looking value
of highway=. Looking at your email you don't mention whether you are
looking at the default map, rendered by Mapnik, or the Osmarender map,
rendered by tiles at home. In case you haven't noticed, you can switch
between these two versions by clicking the plus sign at the top right of
the map.

The Osmarender layer is faster to update than Mapnik, and Osmarender is
what the informationfreeway.org website causes to update. At zoom 14 it
looks like most of the data around Queanbeyan itself is rendered:
http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=-35.353894047101015&lon=149.22767733196494&zoom=14,
perhaps it has re-rendered since you first asked. On the other hand the
Sutton Road up to the Federal Highway is not rendered, in either Mapnik
or Osmarender.

Updates of the default Mapnik map is slower. Etienne will know the
details much better, but I think that the Mapnik map updates after the
weekly "planet dump", Monday mornings our time. But, I think it then
updates tiles in response to them being accessed, and it may take a
little while to actually do the update. So after each planet dump,
actually using the Mapnik map, and panning and zooming around a bit,
will help to get it re-rendered.

I haven't yet set up Osmarender yet, so I can't do tiles at home, but
someone seems to be re-doing the Canberra area pretty frequently lately
(thanks!). I've been doing linework in Yarralumla lately, and the
Mapnik layer has none of that, but Osmarender is only a day or two
behind. So I think your data will turn up pretty soon, especially when
the database change on the tiles at home server is complete, when the
Osmarender layer will start updating again.

cheers
Andrew.
