Hi Greg,

Generally, highway=footway. For track sections along fire trails, highway=track is appropriate. Have a look here (http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=-35.01758847662033&lon=150.83096557504658&zoom=14&layers=B0T) for an example. The Osmarender layer looks better IMO.
