Hi Mike,

I'm very similiarly psoitioned in NSW, about 2 hours south of Sydney. When I started, there was nothing in my area except the main highway.

There is no recommended structure at the moment, it is up to the individual mappers. I started by loading and mapping tracks of my local area, then spending an hour or two once a fortnight on making a special mapping trip to fill in the blanks. In this way, I have mapped the area within 20 K's of my home town pretty much completely, plus slowly extending this over time as we visit around the area.

At the same time, I made logs whenever I drove to Sydney or Wollongong and tried to take different routes each time to pin the major routes. I also filled in the coastline from Yahoo imagery.

Cheers,
Brent.
