But it does not let others know that it is from a gps trace when they are editing.

Yes as it was my understanding that if you improve the data with gps data then you should update the source to "survey".

Both of these let others know that the information is as accurate as it can get (gps trace and or data) so that they will not spend time upgrading or modifying unnecessarily.
