For a grid town we drive around the grid and waypoint each road junction. If 
you know the town, then I am considering the logic in mapping the oldest 
section of town and then the newer bits in chronological order, because you 
need the older parts to make a framework.
But if you live in a Walter Burley Griffin designed town, there are no 
efficiencies because of all the curved roads. Even yesterday I've missed a 
street in the bit I did on the way home from work.
