Tags for that purpose are already described on
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:amenity%3Dfuel

For this kind of information that would be useful in a search but
maybe not for rendering, I wonder if there are any plans for allowing
the display of extra information e.g. on mouse "rollover" or via a
context menu for a particular node or way? As in, similar to allowing
a user to view the tags in an editor, but instead allowing read-only
reader-friendly information to be displayed on top of a slippy map for
a particular node or way?

One by-product of this would be that it would be necessary to document
reader-friendly "translations" of tags, e.g. if a user requests
"details" to be displayed for a particular fuel station tagged with
"lpg=yes", the following translation might pop-up: "This fuel station
sells liquefied petroleum gas". I wonder if making these kinds of
succinct definitions necessary might encourage cleanup and
clarification of some of the more ambiguous tags (e.g.
highway=unclassified :P), which could only be a good thing.

Assuming this has been brought up many times before, my apologies in advance...
