[talk-au] How do I tag a road that's also a major walking trail?

I've made a start on the daunting task of documenting the Hume and
Hovell Walking Track.
I've created a relation to cover the route:
http://www.openstreetmap.org/?relation=308594
This track goes from Hume's "Cooma Cottage" just east of Yass all the
way to Albury.
Quite a bit of the route is on roads and forestry tracks. An it also
goes down the main street of Yass.
I'm documenting all-weather access roads as I go.
I feel it might be silly of me to clutter the map of Comur Street / Yass
Valley Way in downtown Yass with some kind of highly visible indication
that it's part of the HHWT.
But the situation is different in more isolated areas, which get zero
human visitors on most days. An example is part of Byes Road:
http://www.osm.org/?lat=-35.21049&lon=148.59369&zoom=17
As things stand, if many of the 4WD forestry tracks get reclassified
from hiking to vehicular, it will become impossible to follow the route
without being able to display the route relation itself.
Thoughts/ideas/experience welcome.
John
