Cheers, but I'm asking specifically about putting OSM maps on Garmin GPS
devices (for example, Etrex 20x). When I'm backcountry hiking I will always
use a dedicated GPS which is a rugged, waterproof unit which runs on
swappable batteries. I'd never rely on a smartphone for navigation.

After a bit of poking around, turns out if I access
http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ from a Chrome browser I get the AU map from
last June. If I access the same site again from a Firefox browser (which is
what I'd been using all this time) I get the "Apache is functioning
normally" error and the rest of the site doesn't load.
