[talk-au] Social Media sites

Hi Mateusz,
It seems to me where there is a tag specifically for facebook then it should be used. Whilst I have not checked every facebook link I have corrected a few that were failing where I could confirm the business details. I cant imagine why anyone would place a read only facebook site into OSM but again, if I found one, then I would attempt to contact the owners for a correction.
I suspect many of the links have been placed by ‘marketeers’ flogging their service to unsuspecting businesses.
Personally I wouldn’t be relying on just a facebook site for my business but each to their own.
Cheers - Phil

Is it really preferred to use contact prefix?
Note that in some cases Facebook
pages are read only, without contact
possibility (you can send a message
but it will be ignored/get useless automated
reply (maybe it never happens in
Australia?)

Hi Folks,
I am in the process of cleaning up social media entries in Australia. This involves changing keys such as
facebook= https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:facebook
instragram=
youtube=
twitter= https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:twitter
to the corresponding preferred contact tag
contact:facebook=
contact:instagram=
contact:youtube=
contact:twitter=
These are the easy ones but there are hundreds of website= entries that also have a facebook (or other social media) url. I have done all the nodes/relations and am now slowly working through the ways. I have also requested that this gets validated in the ID Editor - https://github.com/openstreetmap/iD/issues/8328
Is there any chance that someone familiar with the Australian Tagging Guidelines wiki pages could please add a section asking folks to use the appropriate contact keys for all social media. This will help with keeping things up to date in the future. https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Australian_Tagging_Guidelines
I am aware of the ongoing issue with phone, email and website in relation to the contact key and wont be touching them.
Cheers - Phil
