> As an outsider (California, USA) and yet, also an insider (OSM-ing since 2009, and trying my very best to craft agreement, consensus and wiki about this, or at least how we do it / should do it in USA), Ian’s table and suggestions to throw at dart at the board with that and see where the holes are is excellent. That’s what we (the OSM community in USA) have largely done (or did, maybe eight, ten, twelve years ago) and now we’re doing some adjustments because of the holes and various regional differences. (And that is absolutely just fine and OK). These (anomalies, wrinkles, oddities, minor problems to be solved…) are there, but they aren’t so huge they can’t be “adjusted.” Folks in Oz seem on track to do this, based on my outsider/insider perspective as denoted above. Keep up excellent discussions like this, try to hammer out something “solid” (or at least “gelled”) into a wiki, or something written, and “go from there.” This is how OSM works in a lot of senses, but “hamlet, village, town, city…” especially. For these kinds of discussions, truly, “it takes a village.” This (edges of place names, with populations and maybe services…) takes shape nicely (in Oz, from what I see and read here), is what I’m saying. Cheers, there…and keep up the good work via dialog.
