[OSM-talk-be] about my proposal to stichting NLnet and how to proceed

(This mail in hairy English as an invitation to French speaking
Belgians to join us.)

Three subjects to this message:

1) Who am i? Mark Van den Borre!

My activities related to openstreetmap.org so far have been mostly
latent interest, limited by the lack of a data logger:
* contacts with Jeroen Dekkers (OSM NL) and Paul Sladen
* a blog post to encourage things at a time there was hardly anthing
in Belgium: http://blog.markvdb.be/2007/04/openstreetmap-antwerpen-leuven.html
* brainstorming work with François Cauwe (active OSM BE contributor).
* sifting through the wiki, chattering in the irc channel
* tracing part of Leuven, Aalst-Ninove road using free sat data (don't
own a gps data logger)
* consulting friends (thx Dieter!) on where to find funding to
stimulate OSM in BE
* brainstorming with fietsersbond/grac people on openstreetmap as a
basis for functional bike maps
* a proposal to Stichting NLnet
* ...
I'm sorry to have missed the creation of the talk-be at openstreetmap.org
mailing list ten days ago. Thanks P. Piquer for pointing me this way!

2) At the bottom of this mail, you'll find my proposal to Stichting
NLnet. Short summary: "I'm a proven good guy, I know quite a few
relevant folks, digital freedom is an important part of my life, have
me do something useful for openstreetmap.org with 10 gps data loggers,
we'll all benefit from it."
My goal: invest a limited amount of time, and no money, cooperate as
much as possible, get a maximal return for OSM. Think carambole
effect.

3) How to proceed from here? I'm open to any reasonable input. Three
obvious options:

* I voluntarily retract the NLnet request. The OSM BE community sends
in a new request, through a new contact person, both chosen through an
OSM BE community consensus. I retract, and I'm willing to if that is
what we as a community prefer. Would look a bit silly though, and
might cause a delay, so not my favorite.

* I keep the NLnet request running, but now officially on behalf of
OSM BE. OSM BE appoints me to handle this support request to NLnet.
Getting NLnet support for a project to be determined by OSM BE
community consensus would be the goal. I act strictly as a way-between
towards NLnet. My favorite, and to the extent we think we can trust
me, an easy, fast and efficient way to give OSM BE a boost.

* I keep the NLnet request running on behalf of myself. I use the
proceedings to start a small project centering on outreach to
non-techies (branding, solliciting mapping contributions), and seek
input from this list. Not my favorite. My ambition is to work based
upon community consensus.
