Hey Mark,
maybe you are right, but once installed the process is pretty easy. Start
TrekBuddy, stop Trekbuddy. Bring the cellphone in range of the computer and
copy the files using bluetooth (browsing from the computer). Now, the amount
of desktops equiped with bluetooth is maybe low. the number of laptops
equiped with bluetooth is probably higher.
Anyway, it is a suggestion, the setup takes a little bit of work indeed, but
nothing terribly complicated ... Small overview (not complete however: you
have to set an option to enable logging):
1)Copy the 2 application files of trekBuddy to the cellphone using bleutooth.
2) Phone asks you to install the application, which you do.
3) (Annoying and maybe a stopper) Create a certain (1-deep)
directory-structure.
3) Go to the aplication-section of your phone and start trekbuddy.
4) Press the "confirmation/ok/..." button on your cellphone, or press some
button till you get a menu with the option "start gps-receiver".
5) Select "start gps-receiver".
6) The phoen will search for your gps-rceiver. Be sure that your
bluetooth-gps-receiver is on!
7) Select your bleutooth-gps from the list and if needed enter the password
for the receiver (mostly 0000). If the phoen asks you to make the device
trusted, answer "yes".
8) You're logging!
9) To stop the logging, go to that same menu and select "stop gps-receiver".
Note: While logging, your handset can still receive phone calls according to
me (mine does). I can also listen to music through my bluetooth a2dp-headset
at the same time:) (geeky explanation maybe, but who cares ... :) ).
Browse the directory-structure of you phone from your computer using
bluetooth, ...:
Track-logs are stored in ....
Waypoints are stored in ...
The best thing of this all ... now you also know the method involved in
transfering music-files (mp3, aac, ... whatever your phone supports) from
your computer to your phone and set it as a ringtone, ... all for free :).
To end on a geeky note: bluetooth isn't a safe technology I believe :). The
current version (2.0) isn't. Version 2.1 (Anyway > 2.0) is coming your way!
Still have to check it.
Greetings,
Michel
