I very explicitely support this request. For years, I have been active
as a supporter of free software, open standards, open access to
publications ... and I have volunteered much time and effort, and also
iinvested quite a large amount of personnal money. I am now active
trying to help OSM but not investing my own money, but contacting
authorities for example to get public datas, for example for Brussels.

I would love to do more to gather datas fo OSM but I can hardly afford
to buy a GPS now that I could use.

Would OSM-Be get some gps to share between actives OSMers, I would be
more than happy to use one myself and also contribute in sharing it
with other people to help us and contribute more.>

this is the idea I had too.

And we could also support the fact that the one who receive a GPS help
find 2 people who could in turn contribute too.
