Let's not start language wars, we've luckily been avoiding those since the 
start of OSM, but I'm always wary when something like this comes up again :-)

For now, the rule was pretty easy: the mapper who tagged a street or place 
name could decide (as some little prize of being the mapper :-) ), and then 
some sort of unwritten rule of conduct in OSM that other people shouldn't just 
change things just because they've had another preference, since you'd easily 
end up in edit wars when two mappers don't agree. But luckily we've had 
nothing of that yet.

I have a simple rule when it happens that I tag something in Brussels: I sort 
alphabetically. I've also heard of the rule that says they tag like on the 
street sign (I guess that's French - Dutch pretty much everywhere given the 
"Rue Blabla straat" structure?)

That said, we know French is spoken a lot more in Brussels, so it makes sense. 
At least it has my go-ahead.
