[OSM-talk-be] Mapping Party Deinze in numbers

Hi all,

Some numbers about the mapping party.
We went mapping with 7 people for roughly 2 hours (a long press moment)
If we compare to the situation in Deinze on April 1, we get

   - Number of named roads from 51 tot 220
   - Length of roads (named and unnamed) went from 190km to 379km
   - Percentage of named roads (correctly spelled!) compared to official
street list went from 11% to 45% as you can see here
http://users.edpnet.be/kknecht/ if you select Deinze from the list. If
the spelling gets checked (not in the least the ones I have inputted) and
the streets Luc has ridden with the motorcycle this will even improve.

This means very roughly that we have mapped about one third of a really big
municipality (both in content - +450 streets- and in surface).
But the best part is that we have local contacts there now: people whose
curiosity was stirred by the news I spread about the MP in advance (like
http://www.bloggen.be/deinze/) and are willing to go on with the work! That
is even more important than the fact that regulars do it for the locals.
Let's also hope that the attention from the media - thanks to Wouter
Bruynooghe who though that OSM was a nice story - also gives us a bit more
momentum.
May be it is a nice moment to start bugging politicians with kind requests
to open up the geographical databases for every-one in this country?

Kenny
