To easily and automatically convert html text (and other format) to 
mediawiki syntax (and also other format), you can use pandoc under 
GNU-Linux. cf. here : http://johnmacfarlane.net/pandoc/

The command line is just like this one :

> pandoc -f html -t mediawiki -o output_file_mediawiki.txt input_file.html

It is also possible to convert html to mediawiki using the following 
website :
http://labs.seapine.com/htmltowiki.cgi
