[Talk-ca] 'Place=' tag for special municipalities?

Hi Simon and everyone else on this list.

I use POI Factories locations for my across canada trails map.

Although it lists every city/town/village as the same point type, the point is that it's all there.  The reason being is that for alot of areas, ie. Victoria, BC .. Im actually in Saanich, BC however, on my street address i put Victoria, and it still gets here. .. So if i were to tell someone I live in Saanich, BC they would have no idea where im from. ...
Most areas have multiple names, as they are in a Regional Municipality of. .. Crowsnest Pass, AB
However, from actually cycling through those towns, .. I think Coleman would be more of a town, as it has a bike shop, but Blairemore has a Tim Hortons. (if i remember correctly). I have the tourist map of that area.. a nice area there is a river cycling route which is quite nice :) .. BTW, Greenwood, BC is Canada's 1st incorporated 'City' yet it is super small... but on the maps its still listed with a large dot, (out of respect for its significance, because it was the capital of the Gold Rush era).

So im more prone to only having the MAJOR cities, as land markers and list all other areas as what they are listed on this file as. ...  (the more the merrier) Because what the local people say as their area name is quite often different than the official name. .. Then we get to areas in Saskatchewan where the distance between towns is so great that there needs to be a town name, even if its just an abandoned railway station, (just to get your barrings in the vast open space, something is needed).
... and to be 'Frank', Frank used to be a town but got barried under a land slide, so out of respect for it, the area remains named as a town.. even though it looks like a rest-stop.   .... so what is your answer?   The ares will always be changing, so the best way to find out the official names is to call the regional offices directly.   

Openstreetmap is awsome, but i would recommend only putting the markers which you know for a fact of what there classification is before posting. ... Google Earth community shows you the estimated population.. as the population increases, so does the level of area classification.   There is a national road classification book out there, so there probably is a national official city classification system out there. maybe this would help?
