I did some initial prototyping of an import script (which is in the SVN
repository) about a year or so ago that we can probably use as a
starting point in going forward, the largest issues that I ran into then
were in coming up with mappings of what goes to what, which varies per
province. So in reality it isn't so much a single large dataset but
rather 13 distinct imports for just the roads alone as each province and
territory has their own classification system (what may be a officially
considered secondary highway in one province may be a primary or
tertiary in the neighboring and may not match up with the common OSM
guidelines for any, for instance) that has been incorporated into the
mappings that Geobase use in the data files.
