Hi all,The CanVec2osm Beta version 0.01 is now available for review.
(if you are interested in helping edit the script, i can place it in the
SVN, so for no it's read-only as to avoid confusion)

Please do NOT upload any data, as its still in testing stage. ... as these
uploads are VERY hard to undo.

This script covers so far, the ability to convert just 1 of the 11 map
features.
I decided to just do detail of the "LX - Places of Interest" category, so
then it wont be that hard to fix the major errors.
The actual tagging and refining of the features, is a longer process, and
rather detailed.
For this version, i'm looking at deciding on what tags to
Keep/change/add/remove.

I used the examples from the National Road Network Tags  that are already in
used for the GeoBase Import of the roads, as well as the Geopolitical
boundaries tagging practices.

The process of importing this is rather simple, this script
creates individual OSM files 1 for each map feature, and tags the
sub-features accordingly.  By viewing each file independently, it's easy to
spot where they are, then simply load the local OSM area around it, to make
sure your not duplicating anything, then upload.

It's best that the users stick with the same area & post on the wiki their
progress. with the goal to import all of the +/-300 map features in 11
categories.  This avoids duplicating extra work.

When the script passed the ridicule of the major mappers :-) .. then it will
be easy to virtually walk across Canada and import the tiles as I go along.
... but 1st, ALL the tags need to be better refined.

I have set all the tags to "CanVec:FIXME=needs to be further defined; Please
update wiki chart"
so when these tags are agreed to, the FIXME can be removed.
When all the FIXME's are gone, then we can begin the import :)

So anyway, please email me back or write on the talk page of CanVec2osm so
then it can be improved.
