[Talk-ca] Address ranges & quick NHN update :)

Cool, thanks for breaking the silence there :-) I didn't want to be the
only one filling up the talk-ca list.
Anyway, FYI the building outlines are available in the CanVec set, and
it appears that it's mainly commercial/industrial
outlines. We should check if there are plans for including more buildings
in the next release of CanVec. So for now, i have the buildings
that aren't designated as anything else as building=yes.

We also have building nodes, these 2 are tagged as building=yes. For the
area im looking at now (south of Pincher Creek,Alberta) it looks like it
covers all the businesses (as farms are businesses)

Are these building nodes shown as in the middle of the property? or exactly
where the building is?

So these could possibly used as a 'matcher' for the addresses? (using
Automatch)

I'd give a +1 for having a line off-set. .. there are power lines, hydro
poles... mail boxes which all will eventually get tagged. So i wouldn't be
concerned with the number of nodes in the database.. but rather that the
community agrees that these map features are OK to be importing. As its
rendered (on the maps that choose to renders address ranges) as a dashed
line, it clearly shows what it is.

We also have the CanVec Roads which can be used as an overlay (not to be
imported.... obviously) for the areas which have not yet been covered by the
GeoBaseNRN.import. .. so that can be used as a guide.

If going the rectangles route, making them smaller in area would help, as we
want to show that these rectangles are not the building outlines, as this
info is unknown.

The other point i need to make is that it could potentially be possible to
acquire the property lines. Once the cities start looking at this map, they
might realize the value of having the property lines available. All though
this would take a few years to happen. (somewhere down the road it COULD
happen). :-)

Anyway, wondering... is Alberta now complete? What province is next?

Has anyone had a chance to look at the proposed tags for the GeoBaseNHN
features?

It seems that because a lot of river/lake names are available it makes sense
to use this dataset rather than CanVec. So my aim now is to set a sample
area loaded so everyone can see and comment. It has way less map features
than CanVec, but they all need to be tagged right. .. As it's going to be
hard to remove data once its in there.

Cheers,
Sam Vekemans
