I agree with Richard.

I don't think we should worry to much about the size of the DB. Being compatible
with the current approach in OSM is far more important from my point of view.

However, it would be important to agree on some rules on the clipping-tagging
operations.
For example, Richard suggest a 3 meters shift on each side. I think its
raisonnable but in which projection? These meter values should first be
converted in decimal degrees.

It's nice to see some discussions about adding this information to OSM.
