Hi everyone,
If you remember from last year (about this time) i was complaining about how
we need to be using the Ibycus topo as a starter.. "in the meantime" until
we get it all loaded into OpenStreetMap, the Ibycus Topo is the BEST we
got. EVERYTHING that is available on that map will be put onto
OpenStreetMap. As all those points are from Canvec and GeoBaseNHN. It's
only the contours that are not.
(here's the YouTube Video he made of how to get the maps to Garmin Device)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ex5wGmKUYQw&feature=related
So, i need to make a basic transparent-overlay of all of Canada, and then we
can have it so that when this Ibycus topo is installing, it can pull from
created .IMG files that are made (say computerteddy) and then use the
countour .img files and make the map that way. (or our own, using a custom
.typ file)
As 'technically' the roads and details are better for the cities, than
Ibycus, since were working on it. Once i (we) get the rivers loaded, then
you'll see some great detail.
So i cant thank Dale enough, as he's the one that taught me now to create
the Garmin map in the 1st place, and with lots of trial and error, we got
this far. That video will give you an idea of what i was talking about,
when i was refering to the famous Ibycus topo.
So hopefully (Dale), the OpenStreetMap Canada community will have the script
set where all the map features will become imported to OSM, then for 2010,
it's just a matter of local people copying in the data thats available.
And hopefully, maybe Simon can help? We'll Make this transparent contour
map of Canada using the GeoBase contours (or SRTM contours). Then we'll
have a super Awesome map :-)
... ok, now, thats all for now :P)
Cheers,
Sam
