[Talk-ca] On renderers

Hi All,

I need to give a presentation on OSM a couple of months down the road.
One of the key aspects in my talk will revolve on the idea that OSM
provides people with data they can operate on instead of just having
access to pre-rendered images.

On the OSM rendering page, there is a mention of the 2 core OSM
renderers : osmarender and Mapnik. There is also a mention of a slew of
renderers from other sources. What I'd like to know is what
organizations that serve OSM data use mainly. From what I can read,
osmarender is a lighter piece of software that organizations can use to
generate maps with their own styles using a relatively simple XSLT
pipeline. There is also the option of using e.g. CloudMade's styleId
url parmeter against their renderer which can be an easier way to style
maps for organizations (but they depend on a remote renderer). What I'd
like to know in fact is how organizations that wish to control how OSM
data is rendered have for options. And examples if possible.

Any pointers appreciated.

Yves
