[Talk-ca] Edmonton GIS Open Data

Hi All,
For those folks in Edmonton,
The city is in the Review phase of how to share the data.

http://data.edmonton.ca/

It looks like the license is great, just asks for attribution of 'City of
Edmonton' .. but not required.

It looks like there is a need to have a local meet-up :)

if anyone knows someone who works in the GIS department that would help. :)

Anyway, I recommend somone emailing & asking for;
- All the data to be available as SHP files
- All the data as a WMS layer
- and maybe even as .osm files :-)

But the above 2 should be sufficient.

Since we already have all of the CanVec data available (on the Ibycus Topo),
we can still 'pretend' that the data is already in the OSM database.
(since we already know that the process of importing, is done at a local
level, and keeping track on the Google Docs chart)

...
And BTW, it would be great to have a trans-canadian couch-Mapping party in
cities across Canada in March. .. a way to compare those downtown cores :)
.. or university grounds...

Anyway, if anyone does contact the City of edmonton, please cc: this list.
