[Talk-ca] Removing old towns/many tags stripped from town locations

I'm not too familiar with the GEOnet Names Database [1], and it's use in OSM
and such, but I did notice something rather odd, where one place in Yoho
National Park (BC) [2] had a key/value pair of "key=Does Not Exist". Could
this be because the town no longer exists (since GEOnet retains obsolete
names, as it says on the wiki), and the node should be completely removed?
Maybe it should get historic=ruins if there are still some ghost town
buildings?

As I was looking into this situation, I noticed the history of two place
nodes, and many tags were removed (the gns tags). See [2] and [3] to see
what I mean. I don't know if it is OSM practice to keep all the gns:xxx
tags, or to remove them as has been done. I'm not in the mood for cleaning
this up myself. Anybody else want to do it (hopefully automated) if
necessary? There are probably other nodes that this happened to.
