Hi Richard & Daniel et all talk-ca@

We haven't yet came to a concencus on how we are planning on dealing
with the .osm files as they become available. Other than, whoever
wants the area can download it & work with it on a 1st come 1st serve
basis.

As you might know, user:MikeyCarter is already working away at
converting the osm data (for the Ontario area around Algonquin Park.
Just using my old canvec-to-osm script and modified with the latest
attachments.

This works for a while, however as some of use has found out. that
while we are working on the area, others might be doing some edits.
And trying to draw in the exact same thing that you are dropping in.
So it's frusterating for both people.

What its actually for would be for MAJOR work. In my case, it's
dropping a whole lot of rivers (that Yan Morin made)
So im working on the whole area.

Here's a pictorial instructions using gpsvisualizer.com to convert
the kmz files from the NRCan website. and then JOSM to convert the
gpx to a layer and add in the tags.

I then remove the extra nodes so it's only 4 nodes for the area.

I set the status to include what is being worked on.

I removed it after i posted it, as the challenge is that those who are
eding 'inside' this area, will not actually see it.
However, having this are rendered where it's only when the .osm files
become available. Would prove to be helpful. & perhaps a link to
where people could download this OSM file (or at least the directory).
Then once the are is complete it could be changed to 'render=no' so
then it's only internally, that we know what the construction status
is.

ie. for the areas that have this new Quebec road names (on canvec osm
updates) this could be indicated in the status.
ie.. and for areas of canvec updates that are scattered throughout
the country as only certain tiles get updated. Having the
"landuse=construction" tag with perhaps "temporary=yes" would be
good.

Anyway, besides saying "No i dont think this is a good idea" please
explain why. :)

Myth: Using the Wiki to keep track of Canvec status.

Because the country is So big.. and so many people are working on it,
the wiki will always be out dated & it also cannot handle pages for
everything. and not everyone is updating the wiki on a minuitely
basis.
a wikia website might work (like what im doing for Across Canada
Trails http://acrosscanadatrails.wikia.com/)
and people are Afraid of the GoogleDocs spreadsheet (only those who
are allergic to Google), but the spreadsheet does list all the NTS
tiles.

Anyway, i do think that this would be a great benifit to have this
data (canvec tiles at construction, non-rendering with status listed
and the NTS name listed).

Has anyone figured out how to get a WMS showing for the NTS tile area & name?
and perhaps creating a WMS that lists what the canvec stats - date of
last update" and colour coordinated to show when the updated data?
