[Talk-ca] Canvec import issues

Frank,

Regarding the WMS layers, I created entries into
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Canada_WMS_Layers. These entries are
accessible in JOSM through WMS/TMS Preferences.

The objective is to facililate validation of content vs Canvec and Geobase. For example, it is possible to validate rapidly a portion of road without having to
load Canvec.osm files. Since the Canvec toporama layer do not show the
road names, I simply use Geobase roads for names. Geobase entries are
derived from  http://www.geobase.ca/geobase/en/wms/index.html page.

Canvec

http://ows.geobase.ca/wms/geobase_en?service=wms&request=GetMap&version=1.1.1&SRS=EPSG:4326&style=&format=image/png&transparent=true&layers=nhn:hydrography,nhn:network&WIDTH={width}&height={height}&BBOX={bbox}
Geobase Roads
http://ows.geobase.ca/wms/geobase_en?service=wms&request=GetMap&version=1.1.1&SRS=EPSG:4326&style=&format=image/png&transparent=true&layers=nrn:addressrange,nrn:streetnames,nrn:streetnames:streetnames_primary,nrn:streetnames:streetnames_secondary,nrn:streetnames:streetnames_other,nhn:hydrography,nrn:roadnetwork&WIDTH={width}&height={height}&BBOX={bbox}
What other contributors are thinking about this? If people find it usefull,  It would be good that I describe this into http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Canada_WMS_Layers.
Regarding route 117, I am sure this is not called Route
transcanadienne. There is only one crossing Québec. The highways 20 and
40 represent Route transcanadienne.  Governments give sometimes names to
 parts of roads like the Jean Lesage section. This is also the case for
route 117 north of Saint-Jovite. There, it is call route du Curé-Labelle
 as showed on the Geobase layer. In fact, Geobase names are provided by
Government of Québec.

Emilie Laffray joined the meeting with Skype, and explained how the Corine Land Cover was handled. While it seemed to be a nice way, it somehow disappeared from the radar. Perhaps the Canadian community is too small, or everyone is too busy with other things, like work, etc.

It would be a good opportunity to learn about the frameworks for handling OSM data which have been developed in the last couple of years. I won't distribute in public, but people could ask for it once it is "ready". I will certainly make it single purpose only, i.e. handling only data which has been tagged with one of the Canvec source tags.

>Regarding the WMS layer, I'll check out the URL. I guess you're referring to the one listed here? http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Canada_WMS_Layers
>Here is my first and only attempt to replace Geobase NRN roads, which haven't been touched by others, by Canvec roads: http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/changeset/11848571
>Although copying names involves manual labor, checking and replacing roads individually is also manual labor. Note that the sheet area is only to the south and east of St. Zacharie. The bounding box is much larger, since I split up Geobase roads at the boundary of the sheet.

>Re. Route 117: it is called "Route 117" in Canvec. Probably it's best known as "Route Transcanadienne" in this area. Near Quebec City the highway is called Route Jean-Lesage, although it's also part of the Trans Canada Highway.
