[Talk-ca] GPS in not so much peril

A while back I posted a note about a firm that was planning to offer
high speed internet access on frequencies close to those used by the
GPS system. In this there was a very real concern that this high speed
internet system would cause grief for poorly designed/built GPS
receivers. Well, here is an update on that:

In summary good news for the GPS using community, this past week the
US Federal Communication Commission has (as is their option), decided
to veto that high speed internet system, out of concerns of what it
could do to GPS receivers. I'm not sure if there is any sort of appeal
process, but at least for now, every mapper, boater, hiker, and/or car
owner with a GPS can rest easy.
